Dr Manuel Müller is a Senior Research Fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA) in Helsinki. He grew up in Bamberg, Helsinki, and Valencia and studied History and Spanish Philology in Bamberg, Granada, and Berlin from 2002 to 2008. From 2009 to 2013 he was a fellow of the graduate research group Multilevel constitutionalism: European Experiences and Global Perspectives at the Law Faculty of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Between 2013 and 2018, he was one of the coordinators of the Franco-German research network Seizing Europe (“Saisir lʼEurope – Europa als Herausforderung”). His dissertation on the European public sphere in the debate on the Maastricht Treaty was published in 2021.
From 2019 to 2021, Manuel Müller worked as a Senior Researcher at Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) in Berlin. As a fellow of the programme re:constitution – Exchange and Analysis on the Rule of Law and Democracy in Europe, he visited the University of Helsinki’s Centre of Excellence in Law, Identity and the European Narratives (Eurostorie) from January to June 2021. In 2022, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of European Integration and European Politics of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Since 2023, Manuel Müller is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Horizon Europe project ActEU – Activating European Citizens’ Trust in Times of Crises and Polarisation.
Manuel Müller is co-editor of the volumes Konstitutionalisierung jenseits des Staates (2012), Communicating European Integration (2014), and Die Europawahl 2019: Ringen um die Zukunft Europas (2020). Next to scientific publications, he has written contributions for Süddeutsche Zeitung, ZEIT online, Blätter für deutsche und internationale Politik, and other media. In 2016, he conducted a series of short interviews with Members of the European Parliament for EurActiv. Since March 2023, he has been publishing a regular column on European Parliament seat projections for Europe.Table.
